A message from Mrs. Tymoski:
Please note the dates for “Parent Conferences”. If these dates do not work for you, let the classroom teacher know. We will make every attempt to work with you to enable this communication between school and home.
With the “Common Core” driving our classroom instruction, now more than ever, we need to “team up” to better prepare our children for future success. There will be more information coming home about ideas we have that will help us in our endeavors. Our guest speakers last month were instrumental with fire safety and safe Trick-or Treating. A big “Thank you” to our fire department and police officers.
*****PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THE UPDATED WEATHER EMERGENCY CLOSING NOTIFICATION!*****
UPDATED WEATHER EMERGENCY CLOSINGS:
In case of Emergency Closings due to Weather, you may check the following locations for up to date information on school closings and/or delays:
WATS/WAVR Radio Station 102.1 FM
WETM-TV, Channel 2
WBNG-TV, Channel 12
School delays or closings will also be posted to the District Website AND the District will be using its “One Call” System to provide parents and interested community members with an automated telephone call. Please keep your contact information current with the office of your child’s specific school. Likewise, notify the District Office at 565-2841 if you do not wish to receive a telephone call.
ADDRESS/PHONE NUMBER CHANGE
If your address or phone number has changed, please notify the office immediately in writing of the change. It is extremely important to keep these up to date as a lot of communication is done with parents at this age level.
INTERNET PHOTO/VIDEO OPT OUT
Throughout the school year, photographs and/or videos may be taken of students to be used on the District Website (www.waverlyschools.com). The District uses the website to provide the public with information about our District and promote news taking place in our schools.
The Waverly School District website is designed to protect students, families, employees and any other person(s) from unwanted disclosure of personal information. When a student photograph/video is used on the district website, if identified, he or she will be identified by his or her first name only. The District requests that parents/guardians provide the Superintendent’s Office with a letter if they do not wish to have their child’s photograph/video image used by the Waverly Central School District for publicity purposes.
PICTURE RETAKES
Picture re-takes are scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2015 for any student who may have been absent on the original picture date.
BAKED GOODS
Due to increasing evidence of health-related concerns, it has been decided by the district to limit baked goods and other goodies brought to school for distribution to students to commercially produced items.
ATTENTION PARENTS!
Regulations for transportation of students to and from school events. The Law:
A. Requires schools to transport students from the school point of departure to an event and to transport students back to the same school point of departure after the event.
B. Allows a parent who provides a note (to the coach or advisor of the event) and who appears in person at the conclusion of event to transport only their own student home from the event.
C. Prohibits a student from riding back from an event with friends, neighbors, relatives, parents of other students or any individual other than their own parent.
D. Prohibits the school district from dropping a student off at his home, a friend’s home, a relative’s home on the return trip from an event.
Obviously the new law changes some of the practices accepted by the school in assisting parents with transportation of students to and from events. No longer can a parent send a note to give permission for their son/daughter to ride home from an event with a neighbor, relative or friend.
The school district regrets any inconvenience that the requirement of this law causes for parents and families. Concerns about the restriction of this law should be directed to the NYS Senators and Assemblymen and the Governor.
PAWS (Parents at Waverly Schools)
There will be a meeting on November 18, 2015 at 6:30pm at the Elm Street Elementary School. This meeting is open to all parents of students in grades PK – 5. If you are unable to attend and want more information, please call Mrs. Tymoski at 565-8176.
LINCOLN STREET BUDDIES (Students nominated by faculty and staff for being a buddy at school)
We have more “buddies” at Lincoln Street!
-
Mrs. Regal has nominated two students to be a “buddy” and they are Aidan Collins and Carter Stillman.
Aidan Collins was a good friend to Carter Stillman and helped him feel welcome in their classroom. Carter then followed Aidan’s good example by walking carefully and quietly in the hallways! Thank you for being so helpful and polite Aidan and Carter!!!
-
Mrs. Boothby has nominated Ramey Grazette and Khloe Kovacs as “buddies”. Both Ramey and Khloe are always eager to help friends, run errands for Ms. Boothby or tie shoes!!! Thank you for being so helpful Ramey and Khloe!!!
-
Logan Robinson was nominated by Ms. Dolan for cleaning up in the classroom without being asked. Thank you Logan for being such a nice and helpful young boy!!!
-
Mrs. Bennett nominated Jase Fravel for assisting Ava and Latreya with their jackets. He zipped their jackets for both of them. He always uses his manners, way to go Jase!!!
