Objective: Introduce MEL-Con writing strategy
CCS: LA7-W-3. Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details and well-structured detail. LA7-W-4. Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience. LA7-W-5. Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.

Thursday, September 20, 2012 – Literary Terms
Objective: Introduce literary terms of a novel
CCS: LA7-RL-3 - Analyze how particular elements of a story or drama interact (e.g., how setting shapes the characters or plot).
Bell Ringer: Fill out the handout for literary terms.

Objectives: Students will identify how Brian might be feeling at this point in the novel by referencing personal experience; identify character traits of Dr. Doofenschmirtz; make inferences about Doofenschmirtz’s character based on setting and prior knowledge.

Objectives: Students will identify the elements of talking to the text I perform while reading aloud; identify a commonplace survival item they have on their person and relate to Brian’s experience with a writing prompt involving that item.

Bell Ringer: Writing prompt – Brian has his Hatchet when he unexpectedly gets lost in the wild. If you were in his position and could have only one object (a real one), what would it be? Why did you choose this object? How would this object be used to help you to survive?

CCS: LA7-L-1-A Explain the function of phrases and clauses in general and their function in specific sentences. LA7-L-1-B - Choose among simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences to signal differing relationships among ideas.
