Jamie Cullum, John Zorn, Benny Golson, Zaz, Gregory Porter, Jimmy Cliff and Melody Gardot, first confirmations for the 50th Heineken Jazzaldia

Tickets for sale as from March 18 the same day the final program will be known
The San Sebastian Jazz Festival, currently Heineken Jazz Festival will celebrate its 50th Anniversary this year. Between July 22 and 26, one of the oldest European Jazz festivals, will celebrate this event with its audience. This Anniversary finds the Festival in a magnificent moment: with increasing prestige and audiences around 150,000 spectators in the last 10 editions.

A festival that has connected with different styles and attracts fans thanks to its plural and rigorous offer, based on Jazz but opened to other types of music. With stages along the best sceneries of the city and main concert halls.

The Plaza de la Trinidad, in the heart of the Old Town, the beginning point of the Festival in 1966 is still the main stage. Other sites have been added during the years extending the Festival: Zurriola Beach with the Green Stage, where every night many thousands gather to watch bands and artists of very different styles; Kursaal Auditorium - Kutxabank Space, the Victoria Eugenia Theatre – Skoda Space, the Kursaal Terraces, Nauticool, next to the Nautical Club, the San Telmo Museum or the Basque Culinary Center…

In the months to follow we will know the events with which the Jazzaldia will remember its brightest moments, its main attractions, the highlights and its entailment with the city and its spectators over five decades.

But some names of musicians and groups who will star in this special edition can already be forwarded. There will be a large representation of the vocal Jazz, with some of the greatest names: Jamie Cullum, Melody Gardot, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gregory Porter among others. Instrumental Jazz will also be represented: John Zorn –this time in trio after his great Masada Marathon success two years ago-, Benny Golson, Charles McPherson, Azar Lawrence, Billy Hart, Eddie Henderson, Donald Harrison, Dan Weiss, Billy Harper, Cecil McBee and George Cables, just as an example. And of course well known names in very different styles, such as Earth, Wind & Fire Experience, Jimmy Cliff, Zaz, Lee Fields and Sílvia Pérez Cruz.

The Festival is also preparing several important events with the office of Donostia / San Sebastian European Capital of Culture 2016. The largest of these will take place over three consecutive days at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre. PUNKT in Donostia is a program with three concerts with live Remixes by a large group of Basque and Norwegian artists (including a special performance of trumpet player Nils Petter Molvaer with the legendary Jamaican duo Sly & Robbie). The concerts will follow the scheme that has popularized the PUNKT Festival in Kristiansand, Norway.

Another of these events will be presenting at the Plaza de la Trinidad a Basque-Polish quintet, led by Iñaki Salvador.

And also Txikijazz with important news that will be unveiled in the near future.
