A significant result of the project is a fact that each partner contributed to joining their national representatives to FP6 consortia. It means that both cooperation profiles and bilateral meetings occurred a big success. Additionally each partner put a lot of effort in consultancy work to advise researchers in writing their proposals. In total 59 submitted food projects to FP6 were created with the FINE’s help. It amounted to over 5 projects per partner.
Aside from the day-to-day work partners of the project organized additional 5 information days in Poland, Estonia, Slovakia and Bulgaria. The information days promoted the 4th call in 5th Priority “Food Quality and Safety”. The methodology was similar to the first information days. Its objective was to familiarize the participants with the new financial possibilities and FP6 rules. As a good example there was a presentation of experienced researches who described the benefits of FP6 project participation.
FOODLINK project cooperated with SMEs for Food and TrainNet Future in order increase the critical mass and exchange the experience. Within the cooperation with SMEs for Food there was organized the brokerage event. The role of SMEs for Food was to promote the event through the project partners and clients. TrainNet Future contributed to promoting database as tool to exchange ACC and NMS profiles.
Summary of WP 4
WP4 last from October 2004 to the end of the project. In that time all partners supported their national researchers and SMEs to be joined to the FP6 projects. Additionally the consortia created by the means of Brokerage event or Cooperation database submitted the proposals themselves. The role of FOODLINK partners were to support in writing projects, creating the consortia or searching suitable call to the idea. The total outcome of these works was 59 projects submitted.
WP 5 – Management of the project
The objective of WP 5 was to assure effective communication between partners; exchange of data and experiences, to assure common format of activities and quality of work, to monitor the progress of the work, objectives achievements and delivery of results.
FOODLINK project stared by the Kick-off meeting on 1st June 2004. All partners met to get to know each other and to discuss the project methodology. Below there is presented the event agenda.

The project started with the short presentation of the partner’s institutions. Each representative described the research profile, experience and institution offer. After the initial phase there was a discussion about the project realization. The coordinator focused on project objectives and deliverables. Each work package and the schedule of its realization were in detail described. The participants agreed on the project methodology and the way of reporting. Next session concentrated on financial and regulation issues in FP6. Because some of the partners firstly participated in the project founded by the framework programs it was necessary to explain the issues related with model contacts, eligible costs and audit obligation. At the end the discussion concentrated on the cooperation possibilities with the other SSA projects in food sector.
Summary of WP 5
Day-to-day communication and smooth cooperation was a tangible result of this work package. Any problem was solved through the consortia discussion or phone consultation. There wasn’t any need to exclude any partner.
Project effects
Partnerships for future European collaboration
Common actions and consortium meetings resulted in better knowledge of the partners and results with contact for prospective partnerships in FP6, “Food Quality and Safety” thematic priority. The database of the ACC institutions active in research and innovation in food sector contributed their visibility and raised of number of ACC partners in submitted proposals.
Awareness rising
The information days, individual consultations and promotion actions increased the knowledge about the FP6 problems, solutions and trends. It was especially useful for research sector interested in project participation; the same is true about the companies.
The better knowledge of FP5 projects.
FOODLINK brokerage event will be a platform to dissemination of information about the FP5 projects concerning food sector. The brokerage event participants will get information about possibilities to participate in FP6.
Better links of science and industry in food sector.
The information days and brokerage event will help SME to know better the competencies of the science part they can use first for training purposes and then to establish better collaboration links. Bilateral meetings and discussion will establish new contacts with prospects of bilateral collaboration as well as including SMEs in international projects.
