1977-78


President Jackie R. (Micke) Jinks CPS, Golden Triangle Chapter (Arlington/Irving/Grand Prairie)

Morgan City Area Chapter was installed by Azalea Chapter (Lafayette) for a total of 45 chapters. Total membership was 2,215 as of April 15, 1978 (including 25 members in Chapter at Large).
Two new FSA Chapters were installed to make a total of 23 FSA Chapters. Dotty Kay Burns, Fort Worth School of Business, sponsored by Trinity Chapter (Fort Worth), was named T-L Division Miss FSA.
A "Secretarial Tips" booklet was compiled by the Retirement Center Committee with the profit (approximately $700) being donated to the general fund of the National Secretaries Association Home Trust Fund.
Division members serving on the International Level were: Paulyne D. Wern CPS, Galveston County Chapter, FSA Department; Joyce Dinsdow CPS (Houston Chapter) Education/Program Committee; and Doris R. Towns CPS, Houston Chapter, Southwest District Representative on the Membership Department.
The Southwest District Region I Conference was held in Bossier City, hosted by Pelican Chapter.
The 26th Annual Meeting was held May 19-21, 1978, at the Sheraton-Dallas Hotel, Dallas, Texas, with Big D Chapter as host. Total registration was 274.
Catherine M. Leonard CPS, Anacacho Chapter (San Antonio), was selected Division Secretary of the Year. She was later chosen to represent the Southwest District as a candidate for International Secretary of the Year at the Vancouver, Canada, International Convention.

1978-79

Total Division membership, including 23 Chapter at Large members, at the end of the 1978-79 year was 2,325.
The year began with the installation of a new chapter...Bi-Stone Chapter (Mexia) by Corsicana Chapter. Division Chapters totaled 43.
Six FSA chapters were installed totaling 22. The 1979 Division Miss FSA, Beverly Shelton, came from a new chapter, Tyler Commercial College FSA Chapter, sponsored by Tyler Chapter. She was also selected as the Southwest District Miss FSA, and was the recipient of the District Research & Educational Foundation Fund Scholarship. At the 1979 Annual Meeting, the membership approved a $200 Scholarship, contingent upon availability of funds, to future Division Miss/Mr. FSA's as recognition of their achievement on the Division level.
In 1978, 117 attained the CPS rating, bringing the total number of CPS recipients residing in the Division to 1,480.
Division member serving on the International Level was Doris R. Towns CPS, Houston Chapter, Southwest District Representative on the Membership Department.
The Retirement Center Committee sold Division logo charms (the Louisiana Pelican and Texas Star). The profit went to the NSA Home Trust Fund.
Educational workshops were initiated throughout the Division. "Putting it all Together for Effective Performance," the 1974 International Award-Winning Program produced by Pelican Chapter (Shreveport), was conducted by Betty Breedlove CPS, Edna Robinson CPS, and Jane Booth CPS. "You Pack Your Own Chute," a mini-workshop, motivational film/discussion session was led by Joyce Boston Kayser CPS, Anacacho Chapter (San Antonio). A "Chapter Leaders' Learn-In," conducted by Division Officers followed.
The 27th Annual Meeting was held in Tyler on May 18-20, 1979. Tyler Chapter's theme was "Everything's Coming Up Roses."
Ann Parsons CPS, Houston Chapter, was selected the Division Secretary of the Year. She was later chosen as the Southwest District candidate for International Secretary of the Year, at the Hollywood, Florida, International Convention.

1979-80

The 1980 CPS examinations resulted in 150 Certified Professional Secretaries in the Division, with 51 of them members.
The Board of Directors accomplished a complete re-write of the Officer's Manual and assisted in updated the Annual Meeting Manual.
There were 43 chapters for a total membership of 2,345 (including 23 Chapter at Large members).
Three new FSA Chapters were installed--sponsored by Azalea Chapter, Lafayette; Rice Chapter FSA; Camellia Chapter FSA, and Teurlings Chapter FSA. Tandy Dennis of the Amarillo College Chapter FSA, sponsored by Palo Duro Chapter, was named the Division Miss FSA, and was the first recipient of the Division $200 Scholarship, plus being the winner of the International Research and Educational Foundation's $500 Scholarship for the Southwest District.
Division member serving on the International Level was Doris R. Towns CPS, Houston Chapter, Southwest District Director.
The 28th Annual Meeting was held in Corpus Christi, Texas, with Coastal Bend Chapter as host. Total registration was 288. The theme of the meeting was "Soar to New Heights."
A special award was re-instated in 1979-80 to name the most Outstanding Bulletin of the Division, and the first recipient was Pelican Chapter (Shreveport, Louisiana) for their bulletin, "Pelican Patter."
Azalea Chapter (Lafayette) received the CPS trophy for outstanding participation in the Certified Professional Secretary program.
Jerry L. Randolph CPS, Houston Chapter, was selected Division Secretary of the Year. She was later chosen Southwest District candidate for International Secretary of the Year, and was selected the International Secretary of the Year at the International Convention held in New York City.
