1956-57

The first issue of the quarterly division bulletin, THE TEX-ANA, was published in September 1956 and mailed to chapter officers and division committee members. The division was the first division to publish a bulletin regularly; the division secretary was the official editor.
New chapters installed:

Corsicana on 7/14/56 and

Golden Triangle (Arlington/Grand Prairie/Irving) by Big D (Dallas)
The first Chapter Procedure Manuals were distributed in January 1957 and were made available to all chapters and members of the association.
The 5th Annual Meeting was held in Tyler in April 1957. The bylaws were amended to change the annual meeting date from April to May.

1957-58

Membership increased from 957 to 1,175. The division increased in chapters from 25 to 31 with the installation of:

4/26/58 Ouachita Valley (Monroe) by Pelican (Shreveport)

5/03/58 Longview by Tyler

5/24/58 Heart o’ Texas (Waco) by Tower Lights (Austin)

5/24/58 Resort City (Mineral Wells) by Trinity (Fort Worth)

5/24/58 San Angelo by Anacacho (San Antonio)

Southmost Chapter (Brownsville) relinquished its charter.


Chapter visits were continued and the division calendar was provided as a source of additional divisions funds and as a service to the chapters in the listing meeting dates.
Monthly letters from the division officers to the chapters were mailed in an effort to inform the membership of all NSA affairs.
A wallet directory of officers and committees was sent to all members and a notebook-size directory was sent to all chapter officers.
The first division historian was appointed to compile a history of the division and prepare a scrapbook containing items from every chapter in the division.
Dues were increased to $2.00 per member; the office of Second Vice President was created; and the division Chapter-at-Large was established.
The 6th Annual Meeting was held in May 1958 in El Paso, with Sun and Sage and host.

The division board of directors appointed Bea Maulden of Trinity Chapter (Fort Worth) as secretary, and Madelane Munas CPS, of Sun and Sage Chapter (El Paso) as treasurer.

During September 1958, the Southwest District vice president, division president, and division 1st vice president met with representatives from the Louisiana Chapters to determine if a separate Louisiana Division should be formed. After receipt of reports from chapter representatives who formed the Louisiana Provisional Board, the Louisiana members voted to remain in the Texas-Louisiana division.
Monthly board letters to the chapters were begun during the year. THE TEX-ANA distribution increased to include all members, association officers, and other divisions.
The first Division Directory was issued.
In October, the division’s pilot Liberal Arts Seminar was hosted by Anacacho Chapter (San Antonio).
The first division luncheon was held at the international convention in Minneapolis.
The 7th Annual Meeting was held in Houston in May 1959.

1959-60

Irene McCormack, Huisache Chapter (Port Lavaca), was appointed 1st vice president and Alice Powell CPS of Tower Lights Chapter (Austin) was appointed secretary. These officers were installed at the May 1959 Annual Meeting in Houston.
The first Leadership Clinic was held December 1960 with Big Springs Chapter hosting amidst a snow storm. The clinic material was requested by and furnished to other divisions.
DeLeon Chapter (Victoria) was installed by nine-month-old Huisache Chapter (Port Lavaca). Woodworth Chapter (Port Arthur) relinquished its charter, making a total of 33 chapters in Texas, 6 in Louisiana, and one chapter-at-large.
Dr. Carlos Hayden of The University of Houston was appointed a management member of the Institute for Certifying Secretaries representing the Southwest District and later became Dean of the Institute.
The 8th Annual Meeting was held in Mineral Wells, Texas.
Bylaws were amended to create separate chairmanships for the Chapter Procedure Manual and New Chapter committees. The newly-initiated traveling CPS Award was presented to Huisache Chapter (Port Lavaca). THE TEX-ANA had a face-lift and its name was changed to THE TEXANA. Bulletin and newsletter contests were initiated to stimulate additional interest.
The first Division Secretary of the Year event was held and Adele Oberndorfer, Galveston County Chapter, was selected division SOTY.
