President Spradley’s theme for the 2010 - 2011 year was “Making a Difference through Passion and Purpose”.
International’s theme was “Passion and Purpose”. Membership on July 1, 2010, was 1,860 and 1,740 on June 30, 2011, representing a 6.4% net decrease in membership.
Texas-Louisiana Division Inc. began the fiscal year with 37 chapters. The Brazoria Chapter chartered on August 1, 2010, with 16 charter members. Cameron Chapter chartered on June 30, 2011 with 47 members. The Division ended the year with 34 chapters; with five Chapters disbanding - Energy Electric Chapter,
FMC Technologies Chapter, Jambalaya Chapter, Lake Country Chapter, and Southwest Houston .
The 2010 Educational Forum and Annual Meeting was held in July 2010 in Boston, Massachusetts, with President Spradley attending as Delegate and President-Elect Flowers attending as Alternate. All five of the T-L Division Board members attended the meeting. We hosted a Southwest District Dinner in Boston at Maggiano’s Italian Restaurant that was attended by five of the seven divisions in the district.
The Division donated $725 to the Retirement Trust Foundation.
We had twenty nine chapters that submitted for the Avery Great Results Award. Clear Lake/NASA Area Chapter received the “Honorable Mention” Award for chapters with 40 and above members. Also, this year Arlington Golden Circle submitted their company University of Texas in Arlington for the Award for Excellence and their company won the award for large companies and will be recognized at EFAM in Montreal. Also, this year, Avery Dennison offered a $200 educational grant for the chapter donating the most box tops for education and West Houston chapter won this award by donating 3,466 box tops to Frostwood Elementary School.
The 59th Annual Meeting and Education Forum was held May 13-15, 2011, at the Crowne Plaza North Greenspoint Hotel, Houston, Texas, with the theme “Admin Power..What’s In Your Toolkit?.” Total registration was 215 members, representing twenty-nine chapters, twelve members at large, and 49 first-time attendees. International Vice-President, Karlena Rannals, CPS/CAP attended the Annual Meeting and provided an International Update and Southwest District Director, Dortha Gray, CPS/CAP provided the Southwest District Update during the business session. Both Dortha Gray and Karlena Rannals assisted
in the officer installation, Saturday evening at the banquet. We also had the California Division President, Angie LaCarte, attend as a guest for our annual meeting.
Suzanne Dunbar, CPS/CAP, Woodlands Area Chapter, was recognized as the 2011 Division Member of the Year during the DMOTY and Awards Luncheon.
To encourage chapter newsletters, the Division board again approved a “Newsletter Award” contest. Twenty two chapters submitted their January or February newsletters. These were judged by four division presidents (Ohio Division, Greater New England Division, Pennsylvania Division, and Washington-Alaska Division). The top three newsletters were: ExxonMobil North Chapter, Galveston County Chapter and the Woodlands Area Chapter. Woodlands Area Chapter was the 2011 winner of the newsletter award.
To encourage chapter websites, the Division board approved a “Website Award” contest. Seventeen chapters submitted their websites to be judged. These were judged by four division presidents (Arkansas-Oklahoma Division, Arizona-Nevada-New Mexico Division, California Division, and Kansas Division). The top three websites were:
Galveston County Chapter, Greenspoint Area and the North Dallas Chapter. Galveston County Chapter was the 2011 winner of the website award.
All division members had the opportunity to be involved in the “IAAP BINGO.” The members achieving BINGO on their card during the period of July 1, 2010 through April 30, 2011, were entered into a drawing for a dogwood blossom necklace from James Avery. There were 128 Bingo Cards submitted. Nancy Herren, CPS/CAP, Arlington Golden Circle Chapter, was the winner.
The Board made the decision to award a $1000 scholarship to Alvin Community College to the ACC Foundation for their Office Administration program. They gave out one $500 and two $250 scholarships to students that are in their last year of completing their office administration degree. The college chose the students that received these scholarships and the division board received letters thanking us from the students that received the scholarships.

This year we had several new awards presented. During the networking luncheon, we recognized chapters that had received the Chapter of Excellence Award for 2008-2009 and for 2009-2010. These chapters were: Alamo City, Baton Rouge, Big D, Clear Lake/NASA Area, Galveston County, Greenspoint Area, Houston, La Pine,, N. Tarrant Bluebonnet, NOLA, North Dallas, Pelican, Plano, Tyler, West Houston, and Woodlands Area. We also recognized the chapters that received the Chapters that received the Chapter of Excellence for 2009-2010. These chapters were: Arlington Golden Circle, Bryan-College Station, Capital, Las Colinas, and Medical Center. We also recognized the 47 members that had received their Member of Excellence Award for 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 that were in attendance. We also recognized 22 members in attendance that received the Member of Excellence Award for 2009-2010.
We also recognized chapters that had participated in community service projects during the 2010-2011 year. The chapters recognized were: Aggieland, Alamo City, Amarillo, Arlington Golden Circle, Baton Rouge, Baytown Area, Big D, Brazoria County, Bryan-College Station, Capital, Chevron, City of Houston, Clear Lake/NASA Area, Coastal Bend, Energy Electric, ExxonMobil North, ExxonMobil South, FMC Technologies, Galveston County, Greenspoint Area, Houston, LaPine, Las Colinas, Magnolia, Medical Center, N. Tarrant Bluebonnet, North Dallas, Pelican, Plano, Southwest Houston, Tejas Topaz, West Houston, and Woodlands Area.
During our DMOTY and Awards Luncheon, we recognized 59 professionals that achieved their CPS certification during the calendar year 2010. 50 professionals that achieved their CAP certification during the calendar year 2010, and the members that recertified during the calendar year 2010. We presented each honoree that was in attendance, a certificate and a candy bar recognizing that “Certification is Sweet Success”.
Division Officers made 57 chapter visits, presented IAAP benefits to three companies, installed the new officers of 23 chapters and held seven Chapter Officer-Training Workshops in: Houston, Texas; Dallas, Texas; Arlington, Texas; San Antonio, Texas, Amarillo, Texas, Tyler, Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Making the Leap to Remarkable”. Membership on July 1, 2011 was 1,740 and 1,736 on June 30, 2012, representing a .2% net decrease in membership.
Texas-Louisiana Division Inc. began the fiscal year with 34 chapters. The Division ended the year with 33 chapters. Aggieland Chapter disbanded in March, and Brazoria County chapter was in the process of disbanding as the year came to a close.
The 2011 Educational Forum and Annual Meeting was held July 24-27, 2011 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. All five board members attended EFAM; President Flowers attended as delegate and president-elect Wiggins attend as alternate. The Texas-Louisiana and California Division hosted a joint division dinner at Bonaparte’s Restaurant.
The Division donated $47.66 to the Retirement Trust Foundation from funds that were collected from members during the leadership workshops.
Twenty chapters submitted an application to receive the Avery Great Results Award. The Galveston County Chapter won the Chapter Distinction Award for chapters with fewer than 40 members. The division received the Division Prestige award. Again this year, the West Houston Chapter was the winner of the box top challenge. The chapter collected over 12 thousand box tops that were donated to a local school.
The 60
th Annual Meeting and Education Forum was held May 18-20, 2012, at the South Shore Harbor Resort in League City, TX. The 2012 theme was “
Sail Away…Navigate Your Career”. There were 196 registered attendees, representing 29 chapters, 8 members at large; 24 were first-time attendees. Southwest District Director, Dortha Gray, CAP-OM provided the International Update and assisted with the installation of the 2012-2013 division officers at the Saturday evening business session. We were also honored to have IAAP Executive Director Jay Donohue. CAE, CMP as an honored guest.

the networking luncheon, we recognized the following chapters that obtained the Chapter of Excellence Award for the 2010-2011 year:
During the 2011 calendar year, 112 administrative professionals in the Texas-Louisiana division obtained the CAP rating; 57 obtained the CAP-OM rating and 103 recertified. Those in attendance were recognized during the DMOTY luncheon and were presented a certificate. All those who were certified were then asked to stand and be recognized. Each person in attendance received a star shaped candy jar with the IAAP logo and the wording “Certification is Sweet” imprinted on the front. Suzanne Dunbar, CAP-OM, 2011 Division Member of the Year was the keynote speaker for the luncheon. At the conclusion of the luncheon, Casey Deats, CAP-OM, Woodlands Area Chapter, was recognized as the 2012 Division Member of the Year.
This year the division challenged chapters to enter their February or March newsletter in the 2012 newsletter contest. Thirteen chapters answered the challenge. The newsletters were judged by three division presidents: Susan Botti, CAP, Hawaii Division; Dawn Staycoff; Minnesota-North Dakota, South Dakota Division; and Christina Cortes, CAP, Puerto Rico-Virgin Islands Division President. The three finalists were the Baton Rouge Chapter, Clear Lake/NASA Area Chapter and the La Pine Chapter. Clear-Lake NSAS Area chapter was the winner scoring a total of 294 points out of a possible 300 points.
The division also conducted the second annual website contest. Thirteen chapters entered their websites into the contest. The judges this year included: Arizona-Nevada-New
Mexico Division President, Patty Spear, CAP; Susan Spreitzer, CAP-OM, CAW, California Division’s webmaster, and Mark Payne, ENP of the Denco Area 9-1-1 District. Mr. Payne is also a part-time web designer. The top three websites were the Capital Chapter, Greenspoint Area Chapter and the N. Tarrant Bluebonnet Chapter. The winner was the N. Tarrant Bluebonnet chapter, scoring 290 out of 300 points.
All division members had the opportunity to be involved in the “IAAP BINGO.” Members achieving BINGO on their card during the period of July 1, 2011 through April 30, 2012, were entered into a drawing for a Kindle Touch electronic reader. Sixty-three BINGO Cards were submitted. Jay Donohue drew the lucky winner’s name. Michelle Spradley, CAP-OM, of the Clear-Lake/NASA Area Chapter, and past division president was the winner.
The Board made the decision to award a $1000 scholarship to Northlake College. Northlake College is part of the Dallas Community College District and is located in Irving, Texas. Two worthy students Maria Alvarado-Sanchez and Melinda Glenn were chosen to each receive a $500 scholarship for the 2012 fall semester.

During the 2011-201 year, Division Officers made 49 chapter visits, which included: four Chapter Officer-Training Workshops in Fort Worth, New Orleans, Houston and Austin and installing new officers of 20 chapters. The division installed one new chapter during the year and presented the benefits of IAAP to the Lewisville, Texas Morning Rotary club.
