NENA-2 Data Record Specifications (NJ)
The NJ system is keyword driven and is based on state requirements to have location data uniformly displayed at all PSAPs. Please note: Data will only be extracted from the NENA-2 Location field if one or more keywords, associated data, and delimiters are present in the exact prescribed format. If none of the keywords are present, any data in the location field will be ignored.
The NJ system location has four separate and distinct location type fields which can be simultaneously displayed at the PSAP; they are: Unit Type, Floor Number, Building Description, and Coin Location Description. The following editing and formatting rules apply to the location type fields:
Unit Type
If one of the eleven unit type keywords listed below [followed by a blank space] is detected, the system sets an indicator to denote the unit type detected and will then extract the data following it up to the first space, comma, semicolon, open parenthesis, close parenthesis or a total length of 5 characters. Note: The first unit type and its associated data will be selected if more than one unit type is included in the NENA-2 Location field.
Format: [Unit Type Keyword] [blank space] [Unit Type Information] [delimiter]
Unit Type keywords: APT, BOX, LOT, PIER, RM, ROOM, RU, SUIT, SUITE, UNIT, WING
Unit Type Information maximum length: 5 characters
Example of data in the NENA-2 Location field: SUITE 2400
Unit Type keyword: SUITE
blank space: blank space

Floor Number
If the floor number keyword, FLR [followed by a blank space] is detected the system will then extract the data following it up to the first space, comma, semicolon, open parenthesis, close parenthesis or a total length of 5 characters.
Format: [Floor Number Keyword] [blank space] [Floor Number Information] [delimiter]
Floor Number keyword: FLR
Floor Number Information maximum length: 5 characters
Example of data in the NENA-2 Location field: FLR 7TH
Floor Number keyword: FLR
blank space: blank space
Floor Number Information: 7TH
delimiter: blank space
If the building description keyword BLDG [followed by a blank space] is detected, the system will extract the data following the keyword up to the first comma, semicolon, open parenthesis, close parenthesis for a total length of 20 characters.
Format: [Building Description Keyword] [blank space] [Building Description Information] [delimiter]
Building Description keyword: BLDG
Building Description Information maximum length: 20 characters

Coin Location Description
If the NENA-2 Class of Service is COIN (6, 7) and the coin location description keyword DES[followed by a blank space] is detected, the system will extract the data following the keyword for a total length of 20 characters. The DES keyword, if present, must be the last, if any of the other keywords are present in the NENA-2 Location field.
Format: [Coin Location Desc. Keyword] [blank space] [Coin Location Desc. Information] [delimiter]
Coin Location Desc. keyword: DES
Coin Location Desc. Information maximum length: 20 characters
