SURGEON LIEUTENANT-COLONEL CLEMENT CUTHBERT WALTER (1845-1897). M.R.C.S. (Eng.).

Clement Cuthbert Walter (1845-1897) [Epsom College 1856-1858] was the son of John Walter, surgeon, of Dover, Kent. He received his medical education at Aberdeen University and St George’s Hospital. During the First World War he served with the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel in the R.A.M.C. He then went into general practice at Dover, and was Surgeon to the Kent Police.


WILLIAM Le GROS DENZILOE (c. 1846-1914). M.D. (Durham), L.S.A. (Lond.), M.R.C.S. (Edin.), M.R.C.P. (Lond.).

William Le Gros Denziloe (c. 1846-1914) [Epsom College 1859-1859] was the son of Mathew Denziloe, surgeon, of Allington, Dorset. He received his medical education at St Mary’s Hospital and Durham University, and went into general practice at Bedford Park, West London.


JAMES WOOD COOKE (1846-1908). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

James Wood Cooke (1846-1908) [Epsom College 1855-1862] was the son of Michael Cooke, surgeon, of Barnstaple, North Devon, brother of Dr Charles Michael Cooke [Epsom College 1875-1879], and father of Joseph Bernard Cooke [Epsom College 1893-1895]. He received his medical education at Guy’s Hospital, and then went into general practice at Barnstaple, Devon, where he was also Honorary Medical Officer for the North Devon Infirmary, and Medical Officer for the Barnstaple District Union.


WILLIAM PRIOR MALLAM (1846-1928). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

William Prior Mallam (1846-1928) [Epsom College 1859-1864] was the son of Richard Mallam, surgeon, of Kidlington, Oxford. He won an Exhibition to Guy’s Hospital, and was appointed House Physician and then Obstetric Registrar. From there he entered general practice at Shepherd’s Bush, London, and served also as Medical Officer at Wormwood Scrubs Prison. He emigrated later to Australia, where he set up in general practice at Belair, South Australia. He died there in 1928.


JOHN HUGH TOMPSETT PENKIVIL (1846-1890). L.S.A. (Lond.).

John Hugh Tompsett Penkivil (1846-1890) [Epsom College 1859-1863] was the son of John Penkivil, surgeon, of Staplehurst, Kent. He received his medical training at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and then went into general practice at Battersea Park Road, London. He died in 1890, aged 44 years. No further details known.


WILLIAM BULL ( ? – 1891). F.R.C.S. (Edin.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

William Bull (? – 1891) [Epsom College 1860-1861] was [probably] the son of Dr C. A. Bull, of Cork. He received his medical training at Meath Hospital and Trinity College, Dublin. He then went into general practice at New Cross, London, and was Surgeon to the New Cross and Deptford Providence Dispensary.


HUGH ROBERT GREY HUGHES ( ? – 1889). L.R.C.P. & L.M. (Edin.), M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Hugh Robert Grey Hughes (? – 1889) [Epsom College 1860-1861] was the son of H. R. Hughes, surgeon, of Bangor, Gwynedd. He received his medical education at Edinburgh University, and went into general practice at Bangor, North Wales.


EDWARD ALLEN WATERWORTH (1846-1901). M.D. (Aberdeen), M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

Edward Allen Waterworth (1846-1901) [Epsom College 1861-1862] was the son of Henry Waterworth, surgeon, of Newport, Isle of Wight. He received his medical education at St Thomas’s Hospital and Aberdeen University. He went into general practice at Newport, Isle of Wight, and served as Surgeon Major to the Isle of Wight Artillery Militia. He was also Medical Officer of Health for Newport, Isle of Wight, and Medical Officer of Health for the Royal Isle of Wight Infirmary.


GEORGE WALTER TAIT (1846-1911). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

George Walter Tait (1846-1911) [Epsom College (1857-1860. Brande Prize] was the son of George Tait, surgeon, of Newcastle, Staffordshire. He received his medical education at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Knowle, Warwickshire.


GEORGE EDWARD D’ARCY ADAMS (1846-1926). M.B., C.M. (Aberdeen), M.D., D.P.H. (Cantab.).

George Edward D’Arcy Adams (1846-1926) [Epsom College 1858-1859] was the son of George Adams, surgeon, of Nailsea, Bristol. He received his medical education at King’s College, London and Aberdeen University. After several years as a surgeon in Montevideo, Uruguay, George Adams returned to England and joined his father in general practice in Maida Vale, London. He was also Medical Officer to the Paddington Provident Dispensary and Kilburn General Dispensary. He was proficient in no less than six foreign languages and translated articles in foreign medical journals for English publications.


WILLIAM DERBY HYDE (1846-1915). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

William Derby Hyde (1846-1915) [Epsom College 1856-1862. Brande Good Conduct Prize] was the son of Edward Hyde, surgeon, of Witney, Oxfordshire, and brother of Dr John Knowler Hyde [Epsom College 1855 or 1856-1860]. He received his medical education at Charing Cross Hospital. After medical qualification he was appointed Prosector and Demonstrator in Anatomy at Charing Cross Hospital. He then went into general practice at Witney, Oxfordshire, where he was Medical Officer of Health for Witney. He was the ‘Holder of the long distance tricycle record (153,507 miles).


GORDON MONEY ROBERTS (c. 1846-1880). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

Gordon Money Roberts (c. 1846-1880) [Epsom College 1859-1861] was the son of J. H. Roberts, surgeon, of Finchley Road, London. He received his medical education at Guy’s Hospital, and then went into general practice at Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. He died in 1880, aged about 35 years.


HENRY ARTHUR ALLBUTT (1846- ? ). M.R.C.P. & L.M. (Edin.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

Henry Arthur Allbutt (1846- ? ) [Epsom College 1860-1860] was the son of George Allbutt, surgeon, of Batley, Yorkshire. He received his medical education at Leeds Medical School, and then went into general practice at Leeds, where he was Honorary Physician to the Leeds Dispensary for Diseases of the Skin, and a Member of the International Medical Congress. Henry Allbutt was very concerned with perinatal mortality and the great number of infants dying during or shortly after birth. He was a strong proponent of birth control. In 1894, he published Infant mortality and Premature Death. London. He was last recorded in 1889.


HORACE EYRE HAYNES (1846-1927). V.D., M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.), J.P.

Horace Eyre Haynes (1846-1927) [Epsom College 1859-1862. Cricket XI] was the son of J. B. Haynes, F.R.C.S., of Evesham, Worcestershire, and brother of Dr Frederick Harry Haynes, F.R.C.P. [Epsom College 1856-1860]. He won a Senior Scholarship to St Bartholomew’s Hospital. After medical qualification he entered general practice at Evesham, Worcestershire, but left this in 1900, to establish a home at Brentwood for patients with mental problems. He worked with these patients until 1917, and then returned to Evesham. He was elected Mayor of Evesham (1884-1885); a J.P. for the County of Worcester, and a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Worcestershire Volunteers. He was a Vice President of Epsom College.


JOHN HOYLAND LILLY (c. 1846-1897). L.R.C.P. (Edin), L.F.P.S. (Glas.).

John Hoyland Lilly (c. 1846-1897) [Epsom College 1858- ? ] was the son of J. W. Lilly, surgeon, of Ollerton, Nottinghamshire. He received his medical education at Glasgow University. He was initially Superintendent of the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, and Physician Superintendent of the City of Glasgow Fever Hospital. He then entered general practice at Bitterne, Southampton, where he was also Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for the 4th District of the Stoneham Union. [There is a curious anomaly! The Epsom College Register (1855-1924) states that John Lilly died at the College in 1860, but the later Register (1855-1954) gives the date of death as 1897].


WILLIAM EDWARD LEDGARD (1846-1906). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Edin.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

William Edward Ledgard (1846-1906) [Epsom College 1858-1862] was the son of Joe Armitage Ledgard, surgeon, of Wetherby, Yorkshire, and brother of Henry Joe Ledgard [Epsom College 1860-1862]. He received his medical education at St George’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Kirkby-Lonsdale, Westmorland, where he was also Surgeon for the Clergy Daughters and Orphans School at Casterton, Westmorland.


JOHN EDWARD MORRIS (1846-1911). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.), M.D. (Durham).

John Edward Morris (1846-1911) [Epsom College 1856-1859] was the son of Henry Morris, surgeon, of Gosberton, Lincolnshire, and father of Dr Claude Woodham Morris, O.B.E. [Epsom College 1901-1902]. He received his medical training at St Thomas’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, where he was also Surgeon for the Great Eastern Railway, Medical Officer for the Bishop’s Stortford Union, and President of the Cambridge and Huntingdon Branch of the British Medical Association.


FRANCIS OTTLEY LOVELL (1846-1916). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Francis Ottley Lovell (1846-1916) [Epsom College 1860-1863] was the son of Francis Lovell, surgeon, of Chelmsford, Essex, and brother of Roger Alfred Lovell [Epsom College 1870-1875]. He received his medical education at St George’s Hospital, and went into general practice at St John’s Wood, London, where he was also Senior Surgeon at the St John’s Wood Provident Dispensary.


LANCELOT NEWTON (1846-1925). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

Lancelot Newton (1846-1925) [Epsom College 1855-1863] was the son of Lancelot Newton, Surgeon, of Alconbury, Cambridgeshire, and brother of Dr Charles John Newton [Epsom College 1858-1865], and Christopher George Newton [Epsom College 1858-1868]. He received his medical education at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, where he won the Kirkes Gold Medal, and after medical qualification was appointed Prosector of Anatomy at the Royal College of Surgeons. He then entered general practice at Alconbury, where he was also the Medical Officer of Health for the Huntingdon R.D.C., and President of the Cambridge and Huntingdon Branch of the British Medical Association.


JOHN EDMUND WARD (1846-1899). M.R.C.S. (Eng.).

John Edmund Ward (1846-1899) [Epsom College 1855-1864] was the son of Joseph Ward, surgeon, of Epsom, Surrey. Although he qualified M.R.C.S., we do not know which medical school he attended or when he emigrated to the United States. The Epsom College Register (1855-1954) records that he was resident in Buffalo, USA, and died at Coney Island in 1899. No other details are known.


ARTHUR HENRY WILLIAMS AYLING (1846-1918). L.S.A. (Lond.).

Arthur Henry Williams Ayling (1846-1918) [Epsom College 1861-1865] was the son of W. H. Ayling, surgeon, of Great Portland Street, London. He received his medical education at the Middlesex Hospital, and then entered general practice at Kennington, South London, and was Medical Officer for the Wellington Dispensary.


DANIEL LOFTUS BECKINGSALE (1846-1929). M.B., C.M., M.D. (Edin.).

Daniel Loftus Beckingsale (1846-1929) [Epsom College 1855-1856; 1859-1863] was the son of J. E. Beckingsale, surgeon, of Newport, Isle of Wight, and brother of Edgar William Beckingsale [Epsom College 1855-1856]. He received his medical education at Edinburgh University, and then served on the staff of several hospitals. In 1886, he emigrated to Canada, and became the first port doctor and health officer at Vancouver. Daniel Beckingsale founded the Vancouver Reading Room, predecessor of the public library. He moved to Nelson in 1894 and then San Francisco in 1905, where he joined the Pacific Mail Steamship Company as surgeon. In 1916, he returned to general practice in Wales.


WILLIAM BRAMLEY TAYLOR (1847-1937). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.), J.P.

William Bramley Taylor (1847-1937) [Epsom College 1855-1857] was the son of Dr Charles Taylor of Camberwell, South London. He received his medical education at Guy’s Hospital. During the First World War he was Secretary and Treasurer of the Belgian Fund, and was awarded the Médaille de Roi Albert. He then entered general practice at Denmark Hill, South London, with the added appointment of Senior Surgeon to the Camberwell Provident Dispensary, and Camberwell House Asylum. He was Master of the Worshipful Company of Apothecaries (1912), and a Member of the Court of Assistants of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries (1905-1930). He served as a J.P. for the County of London.


WILLIAM MATHIAS NOOTT (1847-1927). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

William Mathias Noott (1847-1927) [Epsom College 1859-1863] was the son of W. L. Noott, surgeon of Cardigan, West Wales. He received his medical education at the Middlesex Hospital, and after medical qualification was appointed Medical Officer for Cardigan Port and the 1st Cardigan Rural District Union. He was also Surgeon for the Cardigan County Gaol, and H. M. Coastguard. He later returned to London, and entered general practice at Kensington Park Road. He was a member of the Pathological Society of London.


HORACE JOSEPH PALMER (1847-1917). L.R.C.P., L.R.C.S. (Edin.), L.F.P.S. (Glas.).

Horace Joseph Palmer (1847-1917) [Epsom College 1857-1864] was the son of Horace Palmer, surgeon, of South Lambeth, London. He received his medical education at Edinburgh University, taking Honours in the Midwifery Examination. He went in to general practice at Gamlingay, Cambridgeshire, and was Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for the Gamlingay District of Cambridgeshire.




GEORGE RICHARD NUNN (1847-1892). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.), L.R.C.P. (Edin.), L.M.

George Richard Nunn (1847-1892) [Epsom College 1857-1860. Cricket XI] was the son of George Nunn, surgeon, of Lyndhurst, Hampshire, and father of Dr Gerald Nunn, O.B.E. [Epsom College 1891-1897]. He received his medical education at Guy’s Hospital. He then entered general practice at Lyndhurst, Hampshire, where he was also Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for the Lyndhurst District and Workhouse, New Forest Union. Some time later he removed to Higher Broughton, Manchester, where he continued in general practice. He was a member of the Hampshire County Cricket XI, and Amateur Hurdles Champion of England.


HUGH HERBERT MASON (1847-1914). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.), D.P.H. (Cantab.).

Hugh Herbert Mason (1847-1914) [Epsom College 1863-1865] was the son of William Mason, surgeon, of Burton-on-Trent. He received his medical education at University College Hospital, and entered general practice at Barking, Essex, where he was also the Medical Officer of Health for East Ham U.D.C. He was a Member of the Society of Medical Officers of Health and the Sanitation Institute.


JOHN LOUIS CHAMBERS (1847-1912). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.R.C.P. (Edin.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

John Louis Chambers (1847-1912) [Epsom College 1856-1858] was the son of John Chambers, surgeon, of Trafalgar Place, London. He received his medical education at the London Hospital, and went into general practice at Shoreditch, London.


FREDERICK LEVER (1847-1916). B.Sc. (Hons.), M.R.C.S. (Eng.), M.B., B.S. (Lond.).

Frederick Lever (1847-1916) [Epsom College 1855-1866. head prefect. Brande Essay and Engledue Prizes] was the son of Benjamin Lever, surgeon, of Blakesley, Northamptonshire. He received his medical training at Guy’s Hospital, where he was the Sands-Cox Scholar, and passed the B.Sc. examination with Honours in Physiology and Materia Medica. He went into general practice at Harrogate, and was President of the Harrogate Medical Society on two occasions.


WILLIAM BEACH WHITMORE (1847-1930). M.B. (Lond.), M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

William Beach Whitmore (1847-1930) [Epsom College 1856-1858] was the son of John Whitmore, surgeon, of Sloane Street, London. He received his medical education at King’s College Hospital, and went into general practice at Pont Street, Brompton, London, where he was also Medical Superintendent of Kensington Infirmary.


HENRY VAUSE ELLIS (1847-1891). M.B., C.M. (Aberdeen).

Henry Vause Ellis (1847-1891) [Epsom College 1862-1864] was the son of Phineas Ellis, surgeon, of Crowle, Worcestershire. He received his medical education at Bristol and Aberdeen Universities, and went into general practice at Swansea, Glamorgan, where he was also Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for the Western District and Workhouse of the Gower Union, and Medical Officer of Health for Gower R.D.C.


EUSTACE ARTHUR BRICKWELL (1847-1891). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

Eustace Arthur Brickwell (1847-1891) [Epsom College 1862-1862] was the son of John Brickwell, surgeon, of Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. He received his medical education at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Sawbridgeworth, where he was also Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for the Sawbridgeworth District of the Bishop’s Stortford Union.


EDWIN WILLIAM BARTON (1847-1914). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.), M.D. (Brux.).

Edwin William Barton (1847-1914) [Epsom College 1861-1863] was the son of M. S. Barton, surgeon, of Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. He received his medical education at St Mary’s Hospital, where he was a prizeman and Prosector in Anatomy. He went into general practice at Louth, Licolnshire, and was Medical Officer of Health for Market Rasen U.D.C, and Surgeon to the Market Rasen Cottage Hospital.


SAMUEL GEORGE SLOMAN (1847-1929). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Samuel George Sloman (1847-1929) [Epsom College 1862-1864] was the son of S. G. Sloman, surgeon, of Farnham, Surrey, and brother of the Rev. Canon Arthur Sloman [Epsom College 1863-1870], Dr Herbert Sloman [Epsom College 1865-1870], the Very Rev. Ernest Sloman, Dean of Guiana [Epsom College 1866-1873], and Dr Frederick Sloman [Epsom College 1874-1875]. He received his medical education at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Farnham, where he was also Medical Officer of Health for Farnham U.D.C, Surrey. He was appointed an Honorary Associate of St. John Ambulance “after 30 years lecturing.”


FREDERICK HAY (1848-1916). M.D., M.S. (Aberdeen).

Frederick Hay (1848-1916) [Epsom College 1859-1866. prefect. Wakley Prize] was the son of Dr W. B. Hay, of Hull. He received his medical education at Aberdeen University, and went into general practice at Caistor, Lincolnshire. No further details known.


LOUIS GORDON LESLIE (1848- c. 1900). L.R.C.S. & L.M. (Edin.), L.R.C.P. (Lond.).

Louis Gordon Leslie (1848-1936) [Epsom College 1861-1866] was the son of Louis Leslie, surgeon, of Alton, Hampshire. He received his medical education at Edinburgh University, and went into general practice at Tenby, Pembrokeshire.


GEORGE HENRY HEALD (1848-1935). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

George Henry Heald (1848-1935) [Epsom College 1863-1867. Rugby XV] was the son of Samuel Heald, surgeon, of Leeds. He received his medical education at Leeds General Infirmary (Leeds University), and went into general practice at Leeds, where he was also Medical Officer for the N.S.P.C.C., and a Surgeon for the Leeds City Police.


LIEUTENANT-COLONEL BERNARD WILLIAM WELLINGS (1848-1907). I.M.S., L.R.C.P., (Edin.), L.F.P.S. (Glas.).

Bernard William Wellings (1848-1907) [Epsom College 1859-1864] was the son of Richard Wellings, surgeon, of Waterlooville, Hampshire. He received his medical education at Edinburgh University. In 1885, he served as a Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel in the Indian Medical Service, and sometime later was employed as a Surgeon in the R.A.M.C.



THOMAS HARRY BATE RODWELL (1848-1893). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

Thomas Harry Bate Rodwell (1848-1893) [Epsom College 1860-1863] was the son of George Rodwell, surgeon of Loddon, Norfolk. He received his medical education at Guy’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Loddon, where he was also Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for the 2nd District and Workhouse of the Loddon and Clavering Union, Norfolk. He was sometime Medical Officer for the 4th Norfolk Volunteer Regiment. He died in 1893, aged 45 years.


CHARLES EDWARD WHITINGTON (1848-1922). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

Charles Edward Whitington (1848-1922) [Epsom College 1863-1866. Rugby XV. Captain of Cricket XI] was the son of Peter Whitington, surgeon, of Tuxford, near Newark, Nottinghamshire. He received his medical education at Guy’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Tuxford, where he was also the District Medical Officer for the East Retford and Southwell Unions.


KIRWAN FRANCIS SYLVESTER (1848-1912). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.), L.R.C.P. (Edin.).

Kirwan Francis Sylvester (1848-1912) [Epsom College 1859-1864] was the son of G. M. Sylvester, surgeon, of Trowbridge, Wiltshire. He received his medical education at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Trowbridge, Wiltshire, where he was also a Medical Officer for the Trowbridge and Melksham Union, and Surgeon for the Great Western Railway.


EDWARD JAMES LOUIS LESLIE (1848-1936). L.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Edin.), L.M.

Edward James Louis Leslie (1848-1936) [Epsom College 1861-1866] was the son of Louis Leslie, surgeon, of Alton, Hampshire, and brother of Dr Louis Gordon Leslie [Epsom College 1861-1866]. He received his medical education at Edinburgh University, and went into general practice at Tenby, Pembrokeshire.


ERNEST JOHN CROUCH (1848-1932). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.), F.R.S. (Tasmania).

Ernest John Crouch (1848-1932) [Epsom College 1862-1867] was the son of John Crouch, F.R.C.S., of Westbourne Park, London. He received his medical education at Charing Cross Hospital. Following medical qualification he emigrated to Tasmania, where he was appointed Government Medical Officer. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Tasmania.


JOHN DESBOROUGH ROBINSON (1849-1876). M.R.C.S. (Eng.).

John Desborough Robinson (1849-1876) [Epsom College 1859-1863] was the son of J. C. Robinson, surgeon, of Syston, Leicestershire. He received his medical education at Charing Cross Hospital, where he won the medal for surgery. He was then appointed Assistant Demonstrator and Prosector in Anatomy at Charing Cross Medical School, and Prosector in Anatomy at the Royal College of Surgeons. He later went into general practice at Dorchester, Dorset. He died in 1876, aged 27 years. No further details known.



JAMES ROWLANDS ESSEX (1849-1926). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), J.P.

James Rowland Essex (1849-1926) [Epsom College 1860-1864] was the son of James Essex, surgeon, of Pontypool, South Wales. He received his medical education at Bristol University and University College Hospital, and went into general practice at Pontypool, Monmouthshire, where he was also Surgeon to the Ebbw Vale Steel, Iron and Coal Company; Medical Officer of Health for Panteg, South Wales, and Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel in the 3rd Volunteer Brigade of the South Wales Borderers. He was a J.P. for the County of Monmouthshire.


DAVID LLOYD (1849-1911). L.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Edin.).

David Lloyd (1849-1911) [Epsom College 1858-1866] was the son of David Lloyd, surgeon, of Hinton Waldrist, Berkshire, and brother of Edward Lloyd [Epsom College 1866-1868], John Lloyd [Epsom College 1868-1873], and Herbert Lloyd [Epsom College 1876-1882]. He received his medical education at University College Hospital, and went into general practice at Shanklin, Isle of Wight, where he was also Medical Officer of Health for Shanklin. He died at Adelaide, Cape of Good Hope, South Africa in 1911.

John Frederick Wright (1849-1894) [Epsom College 1863-1866] was the son of J. F. Wright, surgeon, of Seymour Street, West London. He received his medical education at the Middlesex Hospital, and went into general practice at Alton, Hampshire. He was previously Senior Assistant Medical Officer at the County Asylum, Hanwell.
