Edward Monro Spooner (1840-1903) [Epsom College 1855-1856] was the son of E. O Spooner, F.R.C.S. of Salisbury, grandfather of Professor Edward Tenney Casswell Spooner, C.M.G., F.R.C.P. [Epsom College 1917-1922], and Dr William Henry Casswell Spooner [Epsom College 1923-1927]. He received his medical education at the London Hospital, and went into general practice at Blandford, Dorset, where he was also Surgeon to the Blandford Cottage Hospital. He was the Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for Blandford District, and Honorary Assistant Surgeon to the 1st Volunteer Battalion Dorset Regiment.


JOHN CUNNINGHAM NORTH ( ? – 1882). M.B., C.M. (Edin.).

John Cunningham North (? – 1882) [Epsom College 1855-1859 – no exact dates] was the son of John North, surgeon, of Brecon, South Wales. He received his medical education at Edinburgh University and Dublin, and went into general practice at Brecon, where he served also as Medical Officer of Health for Brecon (1875).


JOHN SANDERSON WYMAN ( ? – 1912). M.D. (Lond.), M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

John Sanderson Wyman (? – 1912) [Epsom College 1857-1861] was the son of George Wyman, surgeon, of Alcester, Warwickshire. He received his medical education at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Birmingham, Paris and Vienna Universities, and went into general practice at Hammersmith, London. He was a member of the Pathological Society of Great Britain, and during the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) he served as a Surgeon in Anglo-American and English Ambulances.


HENRY CHARLES BURY (1841-1903). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

Henry Charles Bury (1841-1903) [Epsom College 1856-1858. Cricket XI] was the son of George Bury, surgeon, of Farnham, Surrey. He received his medical education at the Middlesex Hospital, and went into general practice at Whetstone, Middlesex.


WILLIAM BRUORTON (c. 1841-1906). M.R.C.S., (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

William Bruorton (c. 1841-1906) [Epsom College 1855-1860] was the son of William Bruorton, surgeon, of Wincanton, Somerset. He received his medical education at St George’s Hospital, and then emigrated to Canada where he was appointed Coroner and Medical Officer of Health, for Fortune Bay, Newfoundland.


GEORGE HENRY AIREY (1842-1931). L.R.C.P. (Edin.), M.R.C.S. (Eng.).

George Henry Airey (1842-1931) [Epsom College 1855-1856] was the son of Dr Joseph Airey, of Westminster. He received his medical education at Charing Cross Hospital and after qualifying, emigrated to Victoria, Australia. No further details known.


CHARLES HENRY FURNIVALL (1842-1888). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

Charles Henry Furnivall (1842-1888) [Epsom College 1855-1856] was the son of W. H. Furnivall, surgeon, of Graham Street, West London; father of Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Hilton Furnivall, C.M.G., R.A.M.C. [Epsom College 1884-1890], John Sydenham Furnivall [Epsom College 1892-1897], Captain Gerald Furnivall [Epsom College 1892-1895], and Osmer Gordon Furnivall [Epsom College 1896-1898]. He received his medical education at the Westminster Hospital, and went into general practice at Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.


FRANCIS JOHN MARSHALL (1842-1911). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

Francis John Marshall (1842-1911) [Epsom College 1856-1861. head prefect. Brande, Hodgkin and Sterry Prizes] was the son of F. H. Marshall, surgeon, of Moulton. He received his medical education at St Mary’s Hospital and was appointed Resident Chloroformist at St Mary’s Hospital, and later as Resident Medical Officer at St George’s Hospital.


HENRY MORRIS (c. 1842-1889). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Henry Morris (c. 1842-1889) [Epsom College 1855 – 1860] was the son of Henry Morris, surgeon, of Studley, Warwickshire, and brother of the Rev. Joseph Morris [Epsom College 1855-1861]. He received his medical education at St Mary’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Howden, Yorkshire. He was previously Resident Medical Officer at Queen Charlotte’s Lying-In Hospital, London, and Assistant Surgeon for the 3rd East Riding of Yorkshire R.V.


THOMAS EDWARD BLICK (c. 1843-1893). M.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.S.A. (Lond.).

Thomas Edward Blick (c. 1843-1893) [Epsom College 1855-1858] was the son of Thomas Carle Blick, surgeon, of Islip, Oxfordshire. He received his medical education at St Mary’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Islip, Oxfordshire, where he was also Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for the Islip District, Bicester Union.


CLEMENT SAMUEL BLYTHMAN (1843-1917). M.B., C.M. (Edin.), M.R.C.S.

Clement Samuel Blythman (1843-1917) [Epsom College 1856-1860. Cricket XI] was the son of R. O. Blythman, surgeon, of Swinton, Yorkshire. He received his medical education at King’s College Hospital and Edinburgh University, and went into general practice at Swinton. He was also Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for Swinton District, Rotherham; Honorary Surgeon for Mexborough Cottage Hospital, and Surgeon for Manvers Main and other collieries. He was a Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel for the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, the Yorkshire and Lancashire Regiment.
