HUGH STANLEY BEADLES (1875-1960). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Hugh Stanley Beadles (1875-1960) [Epsom College 1888-1892] was the son of Dr Arthur Beadles, of Forest Hill, South London, brother of Hubert John Beadles [Epsom College 1887-1889], and father of Oliver Hugh Reginald Beadles, O.B.E., T.D. [Epsom College 1918-1927]. He received his medical education at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Forest Hill, South London. He served in the R.A.M.C. as a Lieutenant Colonel, was mentioned in dispatches, and awarded the Order of the Nile 3rd Class.


HAROLD COOPER PRETTY (1875-1952). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Harold Cooper Pretty (1875-1952) [Epsom College 1886-1894. prefect. Rugby XV. Captain of Cricket XI] was the son of G. W. Pretty, surgeon, of Fressingfield, Suffolk, and half-brother of George Moore Pretty [Epsom College 1855-1858]. He received his medical education at University College Hospital, and went into general practice at Kettering, Northants. He was a member of the Surrey County Rugby XV, the Surrey County Cricket XI, and the Northants County Cricket XI.


CHARLES RUSSELL SUTHERLAND (born 1875). L.R.C.P., L.R.C.S. (Edin.), L.R.F.P.S. (Glas.).

Charles Russell Sutherland (born 1875) [Epsom College 1888-1894. Rugby XV. Cricket XI] was the son of Dr J. R. Sutherland, of West Rainton, Co. Durham. He received his medical education at Edinburgh University, and went into general practice at Fence Houses, Co. Durham, where he was Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for Houghton-le-Spring, Co. Durham.


RONALD FRANCIS CAMPBELL WARD (born 1875). M.A., M.D., B.Ch. (Cantab.), M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Ronald Francis Campbell Ward (born 1875) [Epsom College 1889-1894. prefect. Rugby XV. Wakley and Brande Prizes] was the son of Dr W. J. C. Ward, of Harrogate, and brother of Oswald Campbell Ward [Epsom College 1896-1899], Alexander Ivan Ward, M.B.E., L.D.S. [Epsom College 1899-1902], and Dr George Edgar Septimus Ward, M.D., F.R.C.P. [Epsom College 1901-1906]. He won a Major Scholarship to St John’s College, Cambridge, taking First Class Honours in the Natural Science Tripos, before completing his clinical training at the Middlesex Hospital, where he won the Lyell Gold Medal for Surgery. He then went into general practice at Harrogate during the summer months, but spent the winter months at Helouan, Egypt.


BERTRAM SHERA WILLS (1875-1912). F.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.R.C.P. (Lond.).

Bertram Shera Wills (1875-1912) [Epsom College 1889-1890] was the son of Brigadier Surgeon C. S. Wills, C.B. He received his medical education at St Thomas’s Hospital. He was then appointed Surgeon to the Leicester Provident Dispensary. He later took part in the Benin Expedition (1897) and was mentioned in dispatches for fourteen engagements. After this he was Surgeon to the Royal Niger Company in West Africa (1897-1899). The Epsom College Register (1855-1924) records that he was sometime resident in Australia.


THOMAS JAMES MILNER CLAPPERTON (1875-1939). L.S.A. (Lond.).

Thomas James Milner Clapperton (1875-1939) [Epsom College 1890-1892. Cricket XI] was the son of Dr James Clapperton, of Broughton, Hampshire, and brother of Francis John Clapperton [Epsom College 1894-1897]. He received his medical education at King’s College Hospital, and went into general practice at Peterborough. He was a member of the Northampton County Cricket XI.


RICHARD WILLIAM HERBERT MEREDITH (1875-1945). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Richard William Herbert Meredith (1875-1945) [Epsom College 1888-1893. prefect. Rugby XV. Cricket XI] was the son of Dr John Meredith, of Wellington, Somerset, and father of John Richard Meredith [Epsom College 1930-1935]. He received his medical education at the Middlesex Hospital, and went into general practice at Wellington, Somerset. During the First World War he served as a Captain in the R.A.M.C. (1914-1918), and was Officer in Charge of the Officer’s Hospital at Beirut and also the Independent Field Ambulance. He was President of the Somerset Branch of the British Medical Association.


ARTHUR HERBERT FOSTER (1875-1946). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Arthur Herbert Foster (1875-1946) [Epsom College 1890-1894] was the son of Dr O. H. Foster, of Hitchin, Hertfordshire. He received his medical education at St Mary’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Hitchin, Hertfordshire, where he was Medical Officer of Health for North Hertfordshire and South Bedfordshire Hospitals, and Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for the Hitchin Union.



HAROLD DYER (1875-1963). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.), F.R.C.S. (Edin.).

Harold Dyer (1875-1963) [Epsom College 1891-1893. prefect. Rugby XV] was the son of J. H. Dyer, master builder, of Alton, Hampshire. He received his medical education at St Mary’s Hospital, and was appointed Clinical Assistant in the Dermatology Department. He then joined the South African Field Force (1900-1902) as a civil surgeon. After the War he moved to Nigeria as Medical Officer to the Lagos Government Railway (1900). Sometime after this he moved again, this time to South Africa, where he was Medical Officer in Charge of the Plague and Small-pox Hospital at Port Elizabeth. During the First World War he served as a Captain in the R.A.M.C. in France. He then emigrated to Vancouver, Canada, where he was in general practice, and served as a Coroner.


THOMAS ALFRED MAYO (1875-1950). B.A., M.B. (Cantab.), L.R.C.P., F.R.C.S. (Eng.).

Thomas Alfred Mayo (1875-1950) [Epsom College 1890-1893. prefect. Rugby XV. Hodgkin and Propert Prizes] was the son of Dr A. C. Mayo, J.P. of Great Yarmouth, Suffolk, and brother of Dr Herbert Reginald Mayo [Epsom College 1888-1893]. He was a Scholar of Clare College Cambridge, where he took First Class Honours in the Natural Science Tripos, and he then completed his medical training at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. During the First World War he served as a Captain in the R.A.M.C. in Malta and Alexandria (1914-1918). He then went into general practice at Cowes, Isle of Wight, where he was also Consultant Surgeon at Cowes Hospital, and the King Edward VII Convalescent Home at Osborne. He was also Medical Officer of Health for Cowes, Chairman of the Isle of Wight Division of the British Medical Association, and Chairman of the Isle of Wight Medical War Committee. He won a Hockey Blue at Cambridge University, and was a member of the Norfolk County Rugby XV.


THOMAS ALEXANDER DOWSE (born 1875). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.), D.P.H.

Thomas Alexander Dowse (born 1875) [Epsom College 1888-1891] was the son of Dr T. Stretch Dowse, of Welbeck Street, London, and brother of James Douglas Stretch Dowse [Epsom College 1888-1890]. He received his medical education at Charing Cross Hospital, and started his medical career as a Surgeon to the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen. He then entered the Colonial Medical Service as a Government Medical Officer in Fiji, where he was Medical Officer of Health for the Port of Levuka. He later joined the West African Medical Service and was posted to Seccondee [? Sekondi] on the Gold Coast (Ghana).


CECIL EDWIN CRISWICK CHILD (1875-1904). L.S.A. (Lond.).

Cecil Edwin Criswick Child (1875-1904) [Epsom College 1889-1893] was the son of Dr Edwin Child, of New Malden, Surrey, and brother of John Waller Child [Epsom College 1892-1896]. He received his medical education at the London Hospital, and went into general practice at Worcester Park, Surrey, where he was also Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for the Malden District of the Kingston Union. Later on he became a Surgeon in the Royal Navy. He died at Wei-Hai-Wei, China in 1904. He was aged 29 years.


EDWIN HYDE (1875-1935). M.A. (Cantab.), M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Edwin Hyde (1875-1935) [Epsom College 1885-1887] was the son of Deputy Surgeon General J. M. H. Hyde, and brother of Thomas Hyde, Director of Education in Nigeria [Epsom College 1883-1887]. He received his medical education at Clare College, Cambridge and St George’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Bassett Heath, Southampton. He was sometime Surgeon to the P. and O. Steamship Line.


THOMAS CHETWOOD (1875-1938). M.B. (Lond.), M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.), D.P.H. (Oxon.).

Thomas Chetwood (1875-1938) [Epsom College 1888-1894. head prefect. Rugby XV. Martin and Watts Science Prizes] was the son of Dr William Chetwood, of Finsbury Square, London, and brother of Sydney William Chetwood, L.D.S. [Epsom College 1897-1902], and Francis Lennox Chetwood [Epsom College 1903-1906]. He received his medical education at the London Hospital, where he was awarded the Jenks Scholarship of the Royal College of Surgeons, as well as the Buxton Scholarship. He was appointed Chief School Medical Officer for the City of Sheffield (1914-1934), and Lecturer on Hygiene at the University of Sheffield.


LEE DANBY BUXTON COGAN (1875-1956). D.S.O., L.R.C.S. (Edin.), L.M.S.S.A., J.P.

Lee Danby Cogan (1875-1956) [Epsom College 1888-1891] was the son of Dr L. F. Cogan, of Northampton. He received his medical education at Guy’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Northampton. In 1900, he saw service as a medical officer with the Ashanti Field Force in the Northern Territories of the Gold Coast (Ghana). He then joined the Territorial Army as a Lieutenant in the R.A.M.C., prior to the onset of the First World War. During the War he was present at the Gallipoli landings, held the post of assistant director of medical services of the 29th and Southern Divisions, and was in command of the 88th Field Ambulance with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was awarded the D.S.O. and mentioned in dispatches (1919). After the War he was appointed Senior Clinical Assistant at the Metropolitan Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, London. Returning to Northampton, he served as a J.P., an Alderman, and member of the Northampton Borough Council (1938-1953), and Medical Officer of Health for Northampton. He was also President of the Medical Practitioners Union (1935).


DUDLEY JEAFFRESON (born 1876). L.R.C.P., L.R.C.S. (Edin.), L.F.P.S. (Glas.).

Dudley Jeaffreson (born 1876) [Epsom College 1886-1894. prefect. Rugby XV. Cricket XI] was the son Dr J. B. Jeaffreson, surgeon, of Highbury, North London, and brother of Dr John Leslie Jeaffreson [Epsom College 1875-1881]. He received his medical training at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Waltham Abbey, Essex. He was previously Medical Officer in Charge of the Ministry of Pensions Neurological Clinic at Northampton. During the First World War he served as a Captain in the R.A.M.C. (1914-1918) in Italy.


DUDLEY BECKIT TRUMAN (born 1876). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Dudley Beckit Truman (born 1876) [Epsom College 1885-1893] was the son of Dr S. J. Truman, of Nottingham. He received his medical education at King’s College Hospital, and went into general practice at Wivenhoe, Essex. He was sometime Assistant Bacteriologist at the Lederle Laboratories, New York, USA.



FRANCIS HENRY MEARS ALLDEN BECKETT (1876- 1937). M.A. (Cantab.), M.B., B.C. (Cantab.).

Francis Henry Mears Allden Beckett (1876-1937) [Epsom College 1891-1894. Rugby XV] was the son of Dr F. M. Beckett, of Ely, Cambridgeshire, and brother of Dr Hugh George William Beckett [Epsom College 1895-1899]. He received his medical education at Selwyn College, Cambridge, and St Bartholomew’s Hospital. He was appointed Medical Officer of Health for Ely U.D.C., and Medical Officer for the Ely Fever Hospital, Cambridgeshire.


CHARLES FISHER (1876-1907). M.D. (Durham), B.S. (Durham), M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Charles Fisher (1876-1907) [Epsom College 1888-1895. prefect. Rugby XV. MacFarlane Cup] was the son of Dr George Fisher, of Shere, Surrey, and brother of Dr Edward Fow Fisher [Epsom College 1889-1896]. He received his medical education at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, achieving Honours in Anatomy, Physiology and Therapeutics. He then went into general practice at Guildford, Surrey.


THOMAS EDWARD BLUNT (1876-1953). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Thomas Edward Blunt (1876-1953) [Epsom College 1890-1895] was the son of Dr Thomas Blunt, of Leicester. He received his medical education at the London Hospital, and went into general practice at Chandlers Ford, Hampshire. During the First World War he served as a Surgeon Captain in the Royal Navy.


JAMES ALFRED PATRICK CULLEN (1876-1932). M.B., M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., D.P.H.

James Alfred Patrick Cullen (1876-1932) [Epsom College 1889-1893. Jenks Scholarship] was the son of Dr James Cullen, of Airdrie, Lanarkshire. He received his medical education at the London Hospital, and went into general practice at Runcorn, Cheshire.


THOMAS HOWARD FREDERICK ROBERTS (born 1876). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Thomas Howard Frederick Roberts (born 1876) [Epsom College 1890-1895] was the son of Dr J. C. Roberts, of Peckham Rye, South London, and brother of Dr Ernest Roberts [Epsom College 1890-1895]. He received his medical education at Guy’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Peckham Rye, where he was also Assistant Medical Officer for the South Peckham District of the Camberwell Union. During the First World War he served as a Captain in the R.A.M.C. (1914-1918).


PERCY GEORGE REILLY (1876-1947). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Percy George Reilly (1876-1947) [Epsom College 1889-1894] was the son of Dr F. J. Reilly, of Mile End Road, East London. He received his medical education at the London Hospital, and went into general practice at Mile End.


FRANK PAYNE EDWARDS (born 1876). M.D. (Lond.), M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.), D.P.H. (Melbourne).

Frank Payne Edwards (born 1876) [Epsom College 1891-1894] was the son of Dr Frank Edwards, of Sawston, Cambridgeshire, and brother of Dr Kenelym Cobham Edwards [Epsom College 1891-1894]. He received his medical education at Downing College, Cambridge and the Westminster Hospital, and went into general practice at Sawston, where he was Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for the Duxford District of the Linton Union. He later emigrated to Australia. During the First World War he served as a Major in the Australian Medical Corps, on a Hospital Ship in the Mediterranean.


JOHN ROBERT LLOYD WOODS (born 1876). B.A. (Cantab.), M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

John Robert Lloyd Woods (born 1876) [Epsom College 1891-1894] was the son of Dr Theophilus Woods, of Gillingham, Dorset, and brother of Dr William Henry Ogle Woods, F.R.C.S. [Epsom College 1890-1894]. He received his medical education at Selwyn College, Cambridge and St Thomas’s Hospital, and then went into general practice at Worthen, Shropshire, where he was Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for the Worthen District of the Forden Union, and Medical Officer of Health for Chirbury Rural District. He later emigrated to Ontario, Canada.


EDWARD SEYMOUR BRETT (1877-1914). M.B., Ch.B. B.Sc. (Edin.). L.M. (Dublin).

Edward Seymour Brett (1877-1914) [Epsom College 1892-1893] was the son of Dr F. C. Brett, of Bridlington, North Humberside. He received his medical education at Edinburgh University, and then served as a civil surgeon in the South African War. He died in 1914, aged 36 years. No further details found.


EDGAR WINN FOX DOLMAN (1877- c. 1909). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Edgar Winn Fox Dolman (1877-c. 1899) [Epsom College 1889-1896. prefect. Sterry and Harvey Prizes] was the son of Dr A. H. Dolman, of Derby. He received his medical education at King’s College Hospital. He then emigrated to Australia where he served as an Ophthalmic Surgeon in Brisbane. He died aged about 32 years. No further details found.


ALFRED MASON (1877-1921). O.B.E., M.C., M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Alfred Mason (1877-1921) [Epsom College 1890-1896. Harvey Owen Scholarship] was the son of Dr T. E. Mason, of Deal, Kent. He received his medical education at the Middlesex Hospital, and was then appointed Medical Officer of Health for Deal, Kent, Medical Officer Health and Public Vaccinator for the Eastry Union, Deal, and Medical Officer for the Port of Deal. During the First World War he served as a Captain in the R.A.M.C.


LOUIS CLIFFORD THOMPSON (born 1877). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Louis Clifford Thompson (born 1877) [Epsom College 1891-1896] was the son of Dr George Thompson, of Stapleton, near Bristol, and brother of Hugh Robert Warneford Thompson [Epsom College 1891-1896]. He was awarded an Entrance Scholarship to University College Hospital, and went into general practice at Clifton, Bristol. During the South African War he served as a Surgeon in the South African Medical Corps, at Messina, Transvaal.


ARTHUR WHITEHEAD SMITH [afterwards WHITEHEAD-SMITH] (1877-1932). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Arthur Whitehead Smith (1877-1932) [Epsom College 1893-1894. Jenks Memorial Scholarship] was the son of Henry Smith, master printer, of Wakefield, Yorkshire. He received his medical education at St Thomas’s Hospital. No further details found.


KENELYM COBHAM EDWARDS (born 1877). M.D. (Durham), L.R.C.P., L.R.C.S. (Edin.), L.R.F.P.S. (Glas.).

Kenelym Cobham Edwards (born 1877) [Epsom College 1891-1894] was the son of Dr Frank Edwards, of Sawston, Cambridgeshire, and brother of Dr Frank Payne Edwards [Epsom College 1891-1893]. He received his medical education at Fitzwilliam Hall, Cambridge University, Glasgow University, and St Mary’s Hospital. He went into general practice at Sawston, where he was also Medical Officer of Health and Public Vaccinator for the Duxford District and Linton Union. During the South African war he served as a Civil Surgeon in the South African Field Force (1901-1903), and during First World War as a Lieutenant in the R.A.M.C., in France, India, and the Persian Gulf.


ROBERT CECIL PITT (born 1877). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Robert Cecil Pitt (born 1877) [Epsom College 1890-1895. Rugby XV. Cricket XI] was the son of Dr William Pitt, of Willenhall, West Midlands, and brother of Charles Arthur Pitt [Epsom College 1888-1893], and Francis Henry Pitt [Epsom College 1890-1893]. He received his medical education at the London Hospital, and went into general practice at Malmesbury, Wiltshire. He was also Surgeon to Malmesbury Hospital, and Medical Officer of Health for Malmesbury District Union. During the First World War he served with the rank of Captain in the R.A.M.C.


GERALD MORGAN SOPER (1877-1919). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Gerald Morgan Soper (1877-1919) [Epsom College 1891-1895. Rugby XV] was the son of Dr R. W. Soper, of Dartmouth, Devon. He received his medical education at St Mary’s Hospital, and was then appointed Medical Officer of Health and Public Vaccinator for the Dartmouth District. He was also Honorary Surgeon to Dartmouth Hospital, and Medical Officer for the Totnes District Union.


DIGBY SAYER SANDILAND (born 1877). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Digby Sayer Sandiland (born 1877) [Epsom College 1889-1895] was the son of Dr A. H. Sandiland, of Southgate Road, North London, and brother of Dr Ernest Littleton Sandiland, T.D. [Epsom College 1894-1900]. He received his medical training at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Southgate, North London.


EDWARD DANIELL PARSONS (1877-1915). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.), D.P.H.

Edward Daniell Parsons (1877-1915) [Epsom College 1891-1896] was the son of Dr T. E. Parsons, of Wimbledon, and brother of Dr Geoffrey Owen Parsons [Epsom College 1891-1897]. He received his medical education at St Thomas’s Hospital. During the First World War he served as a Lieutenant in the R.A.M.C. at Alexandria, Egypt, but died of an illness contracted on service in 1915. He was aged 38 years.


SURGEON CAPTAIN DOUGLAS DUKE TURNER (1877-1930). R.N., M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Douglas Duke Turner (1877-1930) [Epsom College 1888-1895] was the son of Dr Richard Turner, of Lewes, Sussex, and brother of Dr Sydney Duke Turner, M.D. [Epsom College 1885-1892]. He received his medical education at St Thomas’s Hospital, where he won the Jenks Scholarship of the Royal College of Surgeons. He then entered the navy as Surgeon in 1904, and was promoted to Surgeon Commander in 1917. He retired in 1927, with the rank of Surgeon Captain. Douglas Turner served during the First World War as a medical officer on the cruisers ‘Sappho’ and ‘Devonshire’; after the war on the battleship ‘Resolution,’ and later in H.M.S. Defiance, the torpedo school ship at Devonport.


WILLIAM LAWRENCE HAWKINS (1877-1952). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

William Lawrence Hawkins (1877-1952) [Epsom College 1890-1896. Rugby XV. Cricket XI] was the son of Dr William Hawkins, of Abbotsbury, Dorset. He received his medical education at King’s College Hospital, and then went into general practice at Broadwey, Dorset. He later he joined the Royal Navy as a Surgeon Commander.


MAJOR HAROLD JACQUES (1878-1955). M.C., R.A.M.C., L.S.A. (Lond.).

Harold Jacques (1878-1955) [Epsom College 1890-1896. Rugby XV] was the son of Dr J. T. Jacques, of Leicester. He received his medical education at the London Hospital. During the Second World War he served as a Major in the R.A.M.C. (1939-1945) and then emigrated to Taiping, Perak, Federated Malay States. No further details found.


FRANK ROWE EDMONDS (born 1878). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Frank Rowe Edmonds (born 1878) [Epsom College 1893-1895. Rugby XV] was the son of Dr Frederic Hermenegildo Millett Edmonds [Epsom College 1862-1866], and father of Lieutenant Commander Henry Noel Edmonds [Epsom College 1926- killed in action 1942]. He received his medical education at University College Hospital. No further details have been found, although the Epsom College Register (1855-1924) gives his address as Georgetown, British Guiana.


ROBERT OLIVER HANDCOCK (1878-1911). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Robert Oliver Handcock (1878-1911) [Epsom College 1893-1896] was the son of Dr George Handcock, of Leeds. He received his medical education at Leeds University, and went into general practice at Chapel Allerton, Leeds. He died in 1911, aged 33 years.


IRETON GEORGE PRITCHARD (1878-1908). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Ireton George Pritchard (1878-1908) [Epsom College 1889-1894] was the son of Dr G. F. Pritchard, of Sittingbourne, Kent, and brother of Dr Eric Law Pritchard [Epsom College 1881-1886], Olaf Fleetwood Pritchard [Epsom College 1884-1890], and Roger Cromwell Pritchard [Epsom College 1891-1893]. He received his medical education at King’s College Hospital, and Edinburgh University. The Epsom College Register (1855-1924) states that he gave up medicine, although it gives no dates. He died at the age of 30.


ERNEST ROBERTS (born 1878). M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Ernest Roberts (born 1878) [Epsom College 1890-1895] was the son of Dr J. C. Roberts, of Peckham Rye, South London, and brother of Dr Thomas Howard Frederick Roberts [Epsom College 1890-1895]. He received his medical education at Guy’s Hospital, and went into general practice at Peckham Rye, South London.

James Bromley (born 1878) [Epsom College 1891-1896] was the son of Dr J. B. Bromley, of Castle Hedingham, Essex, and father of John Bromley [Epsom College 1930-1934]. He received his medical education at Guy’s Hospital, and then went into general practice at Castle Hedingham, where he was Medical Officer and Public Vaccinator for the Halstead and Sudbury Unions, and Medical Officer for Halstead Hospital.


THOMAS LAMBERT DRAPES (1878-1943). M.B.E., B.A., M.B., B.Ch. (Cantab.), M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. (Eng.).

Thomas Lambert Drapes (1878-1943) [Epsom College 1893-1897. prefect. Hodgkin Prize. Havilland Exhibition] was the son of Dr Thomas Drapes, of Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland, and brother of Arthur Vernon Drapes [Epsom College 1895-1896- died in the Infirmary]. He was an Exhibitioner of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, and passed the B.A. Examination with First Class Honours. He then completed his clinical training at St Mary’s Hospital, where he won the Meadows Prize for Obstetrics, before entering general practice at Chepstow, Monmouthshire, where he remained for over 40 years. During that time he was Medical Officer for Chepstow Hospital, Medical Officer of Health for Chepstow Urban and Rural District Councils, and Chairman of the Monmouthshire Division of the British Medical Association in 1931-1932.
