ELF Benjamin Clarke Establishes Cooperative Relationship between Wenzhou University and St. Michael’s College

ELF Benjamin Clarke introduces Kevin Spensley of St. Michael’s College to the students and faculty of Wenzhou University.

On October 26th Kevin Spensley, the Director of International Students of St. Michael’s College, came to Wenzhou University. His mission was to officiate at the signing of a sister-school agreement with Wenzhou University and to give a presentation to members of the faculty and student body on programs at St. Michael’s College.

Spensley’s visit is the fruition of months of efforts by English Language Fellow Benjamin Clarke. Clarke has been working to establish cooperative relationships between Wenzhou University and universities in the United States as part of his public diplomacy mission.
In response to requests from Wenzhou University officials, English Language Fellow Benjamin Clarke began international outreach efforts in June of 2009. He visited officials at St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont with a proposal to create a sister-school relationship featuring student and faculty exchange with Wenzhou University.
Since that time, Clarke has worked regularly with officials from both institutions to facilitate negotiations and iron out details of the agreement. He believes that this cooperation will greatly benefit both institutions and contribute to the development of greater understanding between the people of China and the United States.
