On April 3, 2012, WHAS-TV participated in the University of Louisville Career Expo in the Donald Swain Student Center in Louisville, KY. Station participants included our Human Resources Director.

Host events/programs for educational institutions and community organizations relating to careers in broadcasting

On April 11, 2012, WHAS-TV hosted students from a journalism course at Lanesville High School for a station tour. The tour was conducted by our Assistant Creative Services Director that included visits to the newsroom, broadcast studio, master control center, graphic art area, and a viewing of a live news broadcast. Q & A opportunity was provided throughout the tour with information provided by various station personnel.

On May 8, 2012, WHAS-TV hosted students from the Broadcast Communication Magnet Program at Thomas Jefferson Middle School for a station tour. The tour was conducted by our Assignment Desk Editor that included visits to the newsroom, broadcast studio, master control center, graphic art area, and a viewing of a live news broadcast. Q & A opportunity was provided throughout the tour with information provided by various station personnel.

On June 12, 2012, WHAS-TV hosted members of the Jewish Community Center for a station tour. The tour was conducted by our Broadcast Maintenance Engineer that included visits to the newsroom, broadcast studio, master control center, graphic art area, and a viewing of a live news broadcast. Q & A opportunity was provided throughout the tour with information provided by various station personnel.

On June 28, 2012, WHAS-TV hosted a student from Virginia Commonwealth University for job shadowing. This student learned about careers in broadcasting by observing one of our Graphic Artists.

On July 18, 2012, WHAS-TV hosted members from the Teen Summit Program at Burnet Avenue Baptist Church for a station tour. The tour was conducted by our Executive Assistant/Programming Coordinator that included visits to the newsroom, broadcast studio, master control center, graphic art area, and a viewing of a live news broadcast. Q & A opportunity was provided throughout the tour with information provided by various station personnel.

On July 25, 2012, WHAS-TV hosted students from Collegiate High School for a station tour. The tour was conducted by our Sales Assistant that included visits to the newsroom, broadcast studio, master control center, graphic art area, and a viewing of a live news broadcast. Q & A opportunity was provided throughout the tour with information provided by various station personnel.

On August 2, 2012, WHAS-TV hosted a student from Bellarmine University for job shadowing. This student learned about careers in broadcasting by observing one of our News Producers.

Internship Program

From September 2012 through February 2013, WHAS-TV hosted a student from Bellarmine University for an internship. The student learned about and experienced careers in broadcasting by assisting with the preparation of daily rundowns, accompanying sports anchors/reporters in the field, and timing sports segments under the supervision of our Sports Anchor/Director.

On October 16, 2012, WHAS-TV hosted two students from Trinity High School for job shadowing. One student learned about careers in broadcasting by observing our Director of Creative Services and the staff in our Commercial Production Department while the other observed one of our Sports Anchors.

On October 18, 2012, WHAS-TV participated in Indiana University Southeast’s Job Fair in the Student Career Development Center in New Albany, IN. Station participants included our Human Resources Director.

On December 11, 2012, WHAS-TV hosted students from the Advertising/Marketing class at University of Louisville to judge and provide feedback on their sales/marketing presentation skills. The station participants were our Director of Sales and Local Sales Managers.

On January 10, 2013, WHAS-TV hosted a student from Jeffersonville High School for job shadowing. This student learned about careers in broadcasting by observing one of our News Anchor/Reporters.

On February 7, 2013, WHAS-TV hosted a student from the University of Louisville for job shadowing. This student learned about careers in broadcasting by observing one of our Sports Anchor/Reporters.

On February 26, 2013, WHAS-TV participated in the Bellarmine University Communications Career Fair at Frazier Hall, George G. Brown Center in Louisville, KY. Station participants included our Human Resources Director.

Q & A opportunity was provided throughout the tour with information provided by various station personnel.

On March 20, 2013, WHAS-TV participated in the University of Louisville Communication Internship Fair in the Belknap Campus Red Barn in Louisville, KY. Station participants included our Human Resources Director

Q & A opportunity was provided throughout the tour with information provided by various station personnel.

During this reporting period, WHAS-TV participated in partnership with Jefferson County Public Schools to develop a curriculum for the Magnet Communication Curriculum Program. Station participants included our Human Resources Director.
