Basic map of the central area of Cuatrociénegas showing streets and principal meeting event sites. Follow black line on arrival from the east (from Monclova/San Buenaventura) to go first to the Research Station (CICC) to check in for the meeting. On arrival there you’ll find the “ice-breaker” party in progress, with light munchies and drinks, as well as help and transportation to get you to your hotel and checked in.
Entering town from the east, continue straight (west) and keep an eye out for the paleteria on your left, with its pink elephant-head trash can in front. One half block past it, at the first corner of the plaza, turn right on Zaragosa. If you miss this turn, don’t worry, starting at the next corner make 3 left turns to circum-navigate the plaza (note that all streets leading to and from the plaza [and at least one block on all sides of the plaza] are all one-way streets and the CICC is on a one-way street southbound toward the plaza). At the second intersection from the plaza turn left on Iturbide, then left again at the next corner (i.e. heading back toward the plaza on Presidente Carranza). The research station will be on your left about mid-block.
This map, marking only the three sites of organized meeting events, was produced from the interactive Google Earth map available from the meeting website (http://desertfishes.org/meetings/2008/call_2008.html). In that map, copies of which will be available at the registration desk, you will find far more markers for restaurants, hotels, museums, places to buy groceries, beer, etc.
¡Buen viaje!
