CALL FOR ENTRIES – EVERYBODY!

>MEDIA FORUM
Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) is held since 1959 and gradually it has become one of most respectable and prestigious film-forums in the world. In 1973 MIFF was registered by the International Federation of Film-producers associations (FIAPF) as an «A» class film festival alongside with those in Berlin, Cannes, San-Sebastian, Karlovy Vary and Venice.
This is the eighth year Media Forum is organized as part of the Moscow International Film Festival. The role of new media in audiovisual art and culture received due recognition and Media Forum was immediately introduced into the official program of MIFF. The programme was started in 2000 at an initiative of Aleksei Isaev, a well-known Russian media artist, curator and theorist of the new media, who founded and directed the Moscow MediaArtLab Centre. Media Forum as action is an exchange of ideas, infusion of new forces into contemporary culture and vice versa. It is an attempt to demonsrtate the logic of new thought and new communications. At the moment it is inside media culture that new ideas go through trial and approbation, ideas that cannot be realized in contemporary art context.
>>MF programme 2007/ The theme of the Media Forum 2007 is NUDITY.
Nudity in philosophy of the postmodernism is understood as a hypostasis of such important notion as corporality. It expresses in its limit the ability of the postmodern “body without image” (Deleuse) to be a screen of desires. In this sense the theme brings up the following problems in the mediacontext:

  • Overcoming of the nudity of the screen in the spatial interaction with media, in interactivity;

  • Transcendence of the overtechnologisation up to the condition of low-tech and escape from virtual to actual, i.e. the return to the physical body;

  • Performativity that allows the body in its interaction with media to turn from the object of desire into the effective instrument of critical reflection;

  • Divine comedy, i.e. the nudity of mass-media that parodies itself.

The idea that moved the organizers of the Media Forum in selecting the theme was a new anthropological ideal, a new measure of things in the epoch of media predominance.

Theme of the Conference and round table: NUDITY /GAME CONSOLE

Reflections on nudity trigger another theme: the game. The game is media par exelence. At long last the critical theory always aspires to strip media naked, to expose its game.

So game is a basic principle of media culture. What is to speak and discuss in this connection:
Border between game and reality…

Common codes for real and virtual and how they become white noise

Mourning of heartfulness of the low-tech of 80s

Ethic of self-made games

Provocation of virtual

Encounter with your avatar

Society where all is in war with all

Game as universal communication hub

Machine that play us / with us

Illusion of the game that continues even when it’s ended long ago

That games have became movable … The game is universal. It belongs to every critical and artistic statement, and even those who try to deconstruct it are only gamers.

Be blessed the society of naked gamers!
