At a very early age Stephen manifested great mechanical skill and could make anything he attempted. He made neighbor's shoes, ox yokes, sleds, axe handles, grain cradles - some of the latter were in yearly use for 40 years. He made the first light waggon in the neighborhood. He became a member of the First Baptist Church here over 65 years ago, but subsequently joined the Freewill Baptists and preached acceptibly as a home missionary in various destitute regions. During the last 15 years he nas resided in Woodstock, and has been a member of the First Baptist Church here. His descendants are numerous. Mrs. H.S. Fennell and Mrs. W. Griffith of Woodstock; Mrs. Malcolm of East Zorra, and Mrs. Legg of Dakota, are his daughters, and his surviving sons are Alexander, Ezekiel, and Stratford of East Zorra, Horace of Dakota, and Griffin living here.
