ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AUTHORITY

Granting of an Exemption

THE Environment Protection Authority has issued an exemption to Vilenna Investments Pty Ltd to be exempted from Section 34 of the Environment Protection Act 1993, in respect of the requirements of Clause 10 of the Environment Protection (Waste to Resources) Policy 2010.

In carrying out the specified activity of ‘Application or Re-use of Water Treatment Solids’, Vilenna Investments Pty Ltd is authorised to release listed pollutants (Schedule 2 of the Environment Protection Act 1993)—namely copper and alum concentrates as a soil enhancer.

The use of copper and alum concentrates at the Bowden Urban Village Project area will include the temporary storage of materials and subsequent application as a soil enhancer to improve tree root growth whilst establishing the project site infrastructure.

As the copper and alum concentrates are listed pollutants under the provisions of the Environment Protection Act 1993, the use of the concentrates will be of a trial basis only and the EPA will exercise its right to cancel the Exemption if the results of required analysis (by conditions of this Authorisation) indicate unacceptable levels of soil and/or water impact.

This Exemption is subject to specific operating and reporting conditions imposed in the Authorisation.

Dated 5 February 2013.

K. Vogelsang, Delegate, Environment Protection Authority
