____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Press Release Saint-Petersburg, 12 February 2014 The Makarov Training Centre of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping has successfully gone through the audit of the British Nautical Institute The Makarov Training Centre of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping has successfully gone through the renewing audit for the right to carry out the training of crew members of vessels equipped with the Dynamic Positioning Systems (DPS). The audit was performed by the experts of the Nautical Institute (Great Britain) which is considered to be the indisputable trendsetter in the development and implementation of DPS training standards. Nowadays the Dynamic Positioning Systems are actively entering both the domestic and foreign fleet. Most of modern supply vessels, piping and cable layers, seismic vessels, semi-submersible drilling platforms, as well as passenger ships and ferries are equipped with such systems. The major customers of the University for this type of training are JSC Sovсomflot, LLC Gazflot, as well as foreign leaders of offshore business, such as Stena Drilling, Bourbon, V-Ships, etc. The Dynamic Positioning System is an integrated system to control the vessel, designed to hold the position and course of the vessel automatically, with a high percentage of accuracy, in the vicinity of marine navigational hazards by means of her active thrust. Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping is the only educational institution in Russia that has an internationally accredited structure for training of dynamic positioning systems operators. When preparing for the audit, the University conducted the upgrading of its training facilities, installed new mathematical models of multifunctional offshore supply vessels and semi-submersible platform. Also the guidance for instructors and students were improved, as well as the library of presentations and exercises. The auditors highly appreciated the level of teaching skills of Russian experts, the system of quality management of training, the introduction of online assessment technology of dynamic positioning system operators in the Makarov Training Centre of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping.
